PostSubject: Star Wars EU   Star Wars EU EmptyThu Aug 16, 2007 11:46 pm

This is to discuss the Expanded Universe of Star Wars. For some reason, SW books are the only books I can read and finish in a week. Everything else I just find boring, except for HP. The first one I read was the Boba Fett scholastic series, which kicked so much ass. So far my favorite book has been Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader. Sadly there aren't many books that take place between the trilogies, which is my favorite time period. I still want to see a book on the transformation of skittle troopers to Storm Troopers. At the current moment I'm reading the first book in the Republic Commando series. So far it's a fantastic book. The writing isn't the greatest, one too many views on one event. Next up is Darth Bane, which I have been looking forward to for months.

Does one author write the books or is it like guest authors? Like with the D&D series(???)...

What book would you recommend to start with and who's the author?

You'll love Darth Bane, Jak, but when you get to the end you will feel it just stops short in the story. Well don't fret, cause there's a second one coming out soon.

The first star wars books I read were the Jedi Apprentice series, by Jude Watson. They are more for kids than anything, but I enjoyed them.

So far my favorite Star Wars book has been either Darth Bane, or Legacy/Secrets of the Jedi. L/S humanized the characters of Qui Gonn and other a little more. For all that Don't know, my favorite character in the star wars universe is OBI WAN FREAKING KENOBI.

Mel, here's a wikipedia page that list all the written, and upcoming star wars books in the order of the Era's they take place. That is how I started my collection, at the top of that list.

It depends on which time period you like the most. If you like the classic stuff, go with Shadows of the Empire. Or if you like the earlier stuff, go with the Republic Commando books. What really got me into it was the Tales books, especially Tales of the Bounty Hunters.

I saw that there was a sequel coming out, don't remember the date though. I'll be waiting anyways because one hardback book and the rest paperback looks odd.

I'm looking to pick up the Jedi Apprentice series, you can only find it on ebay now though. It sounds pretty bad from the summaries and cover art.

Fuck Obi-wan. We all know the Stormtroopers could kill him in an instant if they really tried.

You're crazy! Obi-Wan defeated the chosen one, don't forget that! If he had just stuck around to finish Anakin off, the enitre universe would have been different! I think that you would enjoy Apprentice, because it paints a different picture of Obi Wan. He was much like Anakin in childhood, with immense potential, and some very rebellious traits.

So then he didn't defeat the chosen one. Could have just ignited the saber and thrown it at him if you were too afraid of lava. I am reading the Last of the Jedi series, so hopefully he'll become a better character to me.

I'm only half way through Bane, and it's my favorite book for the story. The writing I find horrible. You can't just jump a year and only give me half a paragraph stating, "He worked vigorously during those 12 months." That's bullshit.

I know that was kinda nuts. I enjoyed the first half of Bane alot more than the second. Don't get me wrong, the second is good, but I liked the Character when he was Dessel, before he becomes Bane.
